STRINGS

Dan Golden – Dan is an active free-lance violist, violinist and string teacher in Chicago where he is the principal violist in the Lake Forest Symphony, a viola section member of Ars Viva and a regular performer with various other ensembles throughout the Chicago area. Dan graduated from the University of Chicago and holds a Masters in Viola Performance from Indiana University. He was principal violist of Orchestra London for 25 years and taught violin and viola in London, privately and at the London Waldorf school. He is also active in Jewish ethnic music and released several albums of Klezmer music as leader of the Hot Latkes Klezmer Band.

Ron Harry –  Ron holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Ottawa and String specialist for the Toronto Board of Education. He is an active Toronto freelance and chamber musician and has performed with many orchestras including North York, Ottawa & Nepean. He teaches violin, cello, bass and viola.

Janet Horne – Janet started studying violin with Ed Gartshore in Sault Ste. Marie. Later she studied with Eugene Kash at the Royal Conservatory of Music and Lorand Fenyves at the University of Toronto. She has played in several major orchestras including Kitchener-Waterloo, as well as The Canadian Opera Company, The National Ballet of Canada, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet and musical productions in Toronto and Stratford. She is currently working with community-based groups in Southern Ontario.

Anya Mallinger – Anya has a Bachelor of Arts in Violin Performance from the University of Toronto and Master of Music in Performance from the University of Western Ontario studying under Prof. Lorand Fenyves. She is concertmaster of the Sault Symphony. Presently an instructor of violin at the Algoma Conservatory and Algoma University.

WINDS and BRASS

Dr. Jerry Voorhees – He is a professor of music at Southeastern Louisiana University and received a Doctorate Degree from North Texas State University. He has served as Principal Bassoon in several orchestras and has published articles and recently a book on the development of woodwind fingering systems, funded through U.S. research grants.

Vic Muenzer – Vic is the Principal Trumpet player and assistant conductor of the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra and Conductor and Founder of the Imagination Symphony, which combines symphony and theatre in original productions designed to introduce children to classical music. Vic is a retired record producer, and made recordings for artists such as Daniel Barenboim, Itzhak Perlman, and Raymond Leppard. He produced a Grammy winning recording with Barenboim in 1994.

PIANO

Stephen Mallinger – Stephen Mallinger teaches piano, organ, and theory at Algoma Conservatory of Music. He is Organist and Choirmaster of St. Luke's Cathedral and Music Director of the Algoma Festival Choir. He is a graduate of St. Michael's Choir School, Toronto and University of Western Ontario, London. Formerly, he was a member of Lincoln Cathedral Choir, UK and taught at Lincoln Cathedral School. Prior to becoming a professional musician he served as a Paratrooper with the 3rd Commando, Canadian Airborne Regiment.

Christopher Morano – Christopher holds a Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance from the Northwestern University School of Music in Chicago, Illinois where he studied under the direction of renowned pianist Ursula Oppens. Prior to that Christopher obtained his Honours Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Western Ontario (UWO), London, in June 2003. For four years he studied under the direction of John-Paul Bracey. He has also participated in master classes of Andre Laplante, and in the international master classes of Cecile Ousset and Jean-Paul Sevilla in France.

Christopher has won prizes in various competitions including the Sault Ste. Marie Symphony Orchestra's Young Artists Competition, the London Music Scholarship Foundation competition at UWO, and the UWO Symphony Orchestra's Concerto Competition. Christopher has played solo and chamber concerts in Sault Ste. Marie, London (Ontario) and Austria. He has performed as Guest Soloist with the Sault Symphony Orchestra, the UWO Symphony Orchestra, and with Orchestra London.

Tony Gartshore – Tony is a graduate of the University of Windsor, School of Music and Studied with Philip Adamson (piano), choral conducting (Richard Householder) and composition (Jens Hanson). Active as a pianist and church musician in the Sarnia-Lambton area

VOICE

Samantha Mosher - Samantha is a grauate of UWO in Honours Music Education where she studied voice with Jen Moir and Theresa Thibideau, and a graduate of Althouse Faculty of Education. She previously studied violin with Anya Mallinger.

GUITAR

Frank Deresti - Frank holds a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance from Carleton University and studied with Allan Marsden. He teaches at the Algoma Conservatory and is active in a variety of musical genres in the Sault area.

DANCE

Artie Fellom Gautier - Performance Coordinator for Academic Centre for the Visual and Performing Arts 2006—2007, Fellom Ballet 1965—2007. MA Southeastern Louisiana University, Kinesiology and Health Studies.

CAMP ADMINISTRATION

Tony Gartshore - Music Director and Chairman of Algoma Music Camp Committee – See biography above.

Sharon Dick - Camp Manager - Sharon is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario from which she holds a degree in Honours Music Education. She studied flute with Ann Emond and Fiona Wilkinson. She has worked for the Algoma District School Board as a band teacher at Bawating, and presently, Sir James Dunn High School.

PROGRAM STAFF

Jeff Gartshore - Program Coordinator – B.A. Music & Drama and B. Ed in Music & French from the University of Windsor.

Stephen Gartshore - Program Staff – B.A. in Music & Psychology from the University of Windsor. He teaches for the Toronto District School Board and is baritone soloist at Grace Church-On-The-Hill, Toronto.
