Founded by Ed Gartshore in 1964, Algoma Music Camp continues to thrive

Transient

Nestled in the hills on scenic St. Joseph Island, 60 km east of Sault Ste. Marie in Northern Ontario, the Algoma Music Camp has been educating and inspiring young musicians for 50 years.

With enrolment limited to a maximum of 70, students experience exceptional professional music and dance instruction with a highly individual touch.

The camp program includes private lessons in instrumental music, voice and ballet as well as choir, orchestra, band, chamber music and dance ensembles. Students bond as they enjoy a well-organized and imaginative recreational program and as they work together at the communal chores which keep the camp running.

Algoma Music Camp faculty and staff come from all across North America, from Louisiana to northern Ontario and Vancouver. We draw campers from the local area but also southern Ontario, the United States, Mexico and Europe. Many of our faculty members were campers at AMC, and many AMC campers have gone on to successful careers in music and the arts. Others have gone on to successful careers in the professions and business, but all were changed by their experience at the camp and remember it very fondly. As we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the camp the staff and faculty of AMC look forward to many more years of inspiring young people to achieve their best.
